Botanic Kitchen

Design for a single storey extension with kitchen, utility & dining space for a Victorian family home in Dublin.

Victorian homes often have generous & ornate spatial qualities in their main living areas and bedrooms; however their kitchen & utilitarian spaces tend to be much less generous and are often incompatible with contemporary lifestyles. The focus of our client’s brief was to create a modest extension that would reimagine the spaces that Victorian architecture forgot about. The positioning of the kitchen & dining space will create a planted courtyard between the existing house and the new extension, which will act as a light-well for the surrounding spaces including a generous laundry room with an additional shower for the family’s teenage children.
