Art display developed for Gay Health Network's exhibition "Out of the Strong Came Forth Sweetness".
The exhibition celebrated 30 years of activism, loss, and triumph through photography, archives and conceptual art.
Múnlann was on display at the Naughton Institute Building (former Science Gallery), Trinity College Dublin from May 12 - 26, 2025. Out of the Strong Came Forth Sweetness was curated by Brian Teeling and assisted by Aisling Clark.
Múnlann’s design is inspired by ecclesiastical bookstands and trough urinals. As with bookstands, the piece offers the viewer a display angle suitable for printed media, while the shape, material, and the very act of viewing art next to others evoques the environment of a public bathroom.
The Irish word “Múnlann” translates to a urinal room or building in English. The piece turns any space hosting it into a múnlann.
Made in Ireland exclusively for maremoto by Ray Field Cabinets.
